Schaffner EMC Limited, the No.1 supplier of EMC components in the UK, recently went further than ever at the Drives and Controls exhibition, held at the NEC Birmingham.

The Wokingham based company, who have had some forty years experience in the field of EMC, displayed their new range of "Power Quality" products. The range is designed with system reliability and functionality at its heart, and sits alongside the traditional and successful series of existing EMC components.

Schaffner are already working in the different market sectors where power conversion is already in practice. These are both in static conversion systems, and in rotating electrical machines. In both areas, there is a typical need for filters to help fulfil their requirements with respect to the International Standards. Normally, in these markets, the only filters required are for EMI suppression, and this has been the daily business of Schaffner for some time.

In the EMI arena, customers use the filters because the EMC Standards require them to do so; this puts additional cost into their equipment. In the Power Quality market, customers are actively interested in products whose end result will be to improve the overall reliability of their system. These products often operate in close harmony with the Schaffner filter range, hence the decision was made to design and manufacture a range of products specifically for the market.
