FN3258 Ultra-compact EMC/RFI Filter for 3-phase systems and motor drives
January 2005 - Schaffner Ltd the Wokingham based world leader in EMC, announces the introduction of new models in its highly successful FN3258 range and improvements to the means of connection via new “touch-safe” connecting terminals.
One of the most important considerations when selecting an EMC filter is the safety of installation. Fundamental to this is providing the best possible cable connections. Schaffner have designed their own “touch-safe” connection terminals to ensure reliable, low-impedance connection to both incoming mains supply and load. The new connector has a generously designed wire cage and easy access for tightening; this not only ensures safe and secure connection but also simplifies the installation process. The new connectors do not affect the dimensions of the filter or mounting holes ensuring complete interchangeability between existing and new models.
The FN3258 series of EMC filters is suitable for applications in 3-phase drive technology, inverter, machine control and panel manufacture. Also heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and 3-phase power supplies and UPS. The FN3258 offers exceptional attenuation performance in a very compact and lightweight package. The small footprint and slim profile enables the filter to be fitted cleanly in even the smallest control panel space. These filters continue Schaffner’s drive to reduce size and offer outstanding cost/performance value.
The lightweight FN3258 series are available rated up to 480VAC and 520VAC continuous operating voltage at currents from 7 to 180A making them suitable for EMC suppression of motor drives with high noise levels and long connecting cable runs. The operating frequency range is from DC to 60Hz and over the temperature range –25°C to + 100°C. The filters are designed to UL1283, CSA22.2 No.8 1986 and EN133’200 and their MTBF is >300,000 hours.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer these filters with our own new connectors. We are always looking for ways to improve our products and ensure our customers get the best possible solution to their EMC requirements.” comments Andy Kotas, Marketing Manager of Schaffner “It was also very important to ensure complete compatibility between the existing filters and these new alternatives so our customers can move seamlessly between the ranges”
