Powerline telecommunications (PLT) is forging ahead in the US and the rest of Europe with the standards bodies working on settling the specifications.
"They're trying to set the standards now because people want to send broadband down power lines, so it's raising its head again," said Andy Kotas, product manager at EMC specialist Schaffner.
Kotas said immunity aspects were still causing problems. "There's an interesting fight between people who want to carry out this technology and people with existing technology who don't want to invest more money in making products more resilient to RF."
Telecoms standards body ETSI held the second round of so-called Plugtests for PLT last week which involved both lab and field tests.
