April 2005 - Schaffner Ltd. the market leader in EMC components and systems are making low-cost manufacturing services available to other OEM’s at their own manufacturing facility in Northern Thailand.
Schaffner opened their off-shore factory in 1989 to manufacture high volume filter products. With improvements in efficiency and quality spare capacity has become available which Schaffner are able to now share with other manufacturers. “This facility would be ideal for a small or medium sized domestic manufacturer who would like to reduce production costs but doesn’t have the volume to justify their own manufacturing plant or joint venture. They can just buy-in to our existing, proven factory and only have to deal with Schaffner in Europe which simplifies cooperation considerably. “ Says Andy Kotas, Schaffner’s Marketing Manager.
Schaffner can offer potential users of this service electrical and mechanical assembly and test for a wide product range such as cable harnesses and assembly tasks including purchasing and logistics. They also offer the possibility for plastic injection moulding and to shift complete production lines to Thailand. The facility fulfills compliance to quality standards ISO 9001:2000 (and the automotive quality standard ISO/TS 16949:2002 along with environmental compliance to ISO 14001:1996.
“To make this service viable” continues Kotas “we are looking for production runs of more than 10,000 units per year with a value above £5,000. We believe this will be a very useful service to any manufacturer with an existing product being produced in the UK who would like to reduce manufacturing costs without the need to do the extensive research and evaluation required to find an off-shore partner”
